There are many government and industrial standards which may be applicable to a particular set of circumstances. Generally, to gain access to them you either had to call up a particular association and query the sales department, or search through a catalog. Catalogs come out once a year or at shorter intervals so access through catalogs requires continual updating.
This is gradually changing. Technology is making a search for an applicable standard easier and faster. I'm talking about internet and on-line searches.
The Document Center, 1504 Industrial Way Unit 9, Belmont, CA 94002 now has a home page which will allow you to search for standards and order them on-line.
Access to their Internet server can be made through the Home Page of MAC, under Useful Legal Links.
They publish a newsletter named UPDATE. Send them a n E-mail request to be put on their mailing list at info@doccenter.com or call (415) 591-7600, fax (415) 591-7617.
