CARGO EXPERTS  (Spring 89)

A cargo of perishable goods is refused by the consignee stating it has been damaged, or by a destination country claiming it does not meet their chemical free standard. Familiar??

Because of MEC's unique capability in finding experts in almost any maritime related discipline, more and more clients are asking us to locate specialists in products and produce ranging from goatskins to citrus and cheese.

The expert we referred on the citrus case indicates that there are a number of cases where produce is refused at the foreign port of entry because of chemical residues which are found on it. Finland is a country which checks inbound products more carefully than most. Their comments regarding their strict standards are that the standards are not stricter, it is the method of checking for residues which is more thorough than other countries.

Regardless of the reason, MEC either has experts on hand or can obtain them to assist should this problem be encountered.
