ATTORNEYS: FREE INTERNET LISTING (Fall 98)

By Captain Kirk Greiner

Paul Hoffman, the 1997-1998 Admiralty Section chair of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, suggested that I consider creating an on-line database of Maritime attorneys on the MAC web site for the public to use in locating maritime attorneys. I thought it was a good idea. So, MAC will accept short informational entries from both maritime and aviation attorneys, with no current charge, to be added to this database.

Why free? I want to see how well this addition to MAC's web page works. The web site has the capability to measure the number of "hits" each page receives in a day. It is currently receiving about 70 a day. If the pages of attorney listings receive a sufficient number of hits, indicating that these listings are of value to those listed, there will probably be a charge instituted in the future. I expect to reevaluate this after one year. In the mean time, take advantage of our free offer.

What is a good format for a listing? Look on MAC's web page (www.mac-experts.com) for the listing of Steve Fury, a maritime attorney in Seattle, Washington. I consider it to be a good listing format. Since this is MAC's first public announcement of this service, you will not find many attorneys yet on our listings.

Because the selection of an attorney is a personal one and prospective clients hire an attorney, not a firm, I prefer to list individual attorneys rather than firms. The listing must be submitted in electronic format, either as an attachment to an e-mail, or by mail on a PC disc in HTML, Word or WordPerfect format.
