BOATING INVESTIGATION MANUAL  (Fall 93)

The Underwriters Laboratories has publish a new manual, Boating Accident Investigation. The 366 page soft bound manual was prepared under a grant from the U. S. Coast Guard.

The book has two shortcomings - it is soft bound which will result in it becoming worn and tattered when used extensively (a smaller page, loose leaf in a ring binder would have been better) and it has no index. These aside, its content is excellent.

It has the checkoff lists commonly used by the investigator to assure that he or she has not overlooked something. In some places, short quizzes and problems to work are presented (with the answers on a later page) so that the reader may test his knowledge of the subject covered.

The book covers a lot of important material ranging from interviewing and photographing techniques, to calculation of minimum boast speed.

Those interested in obtaining a copy may contact the National Technical Information service (NTIS), U. S. Department of Commerce, 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, VA 22161 (703) 487-4650. It is highly recommended for anyone who either investigates or consults in the boating accident area.
