Maritime & Environmental Consultants is the world's largest referral service organization for maritime (shipping and boating) and marine pollution experts. There are larger referral companies. You can find them listed in the advertising section of any of the legal journals, but none specializes in our particular field.
Why should an attorney or a shipping company use our services? There are several reasons. First, we do it as a full time business so we know more of the experts in this field than others do. The prequalification of any expert is done by a marine safety expert who is also an attorney. He can thus appreciate your concerns as an attorney as well as the type of expertise you need.
The second reason is an economic one. Our price is $50 ($60 with a fax resume) unless it is one of these cases where we are called at 5:30 PM on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and asked to provide someone who has to leave for South America on Sunday, two days hence. In cases like that, we reserve the right to charge more, usually $100. And we did provide two people in that case. But is it less expensive to have your associate spend half a day or more looking for an expert, or use us?
