The Coast Guard has just published a warning that some gasoline fuel-fills constructed of plastic combination fill/vent/cap style deck fittings have developed cracks. This allows gasoline to flow into the bilges during filling. Surveyors examining boats should pay particular attention to this fitting.
In investigating fires or explosions on boats, the investigator should determine the type of fill fitting and although it is always checked during such an investigation, pay particular attention to those of this style.
